General Catalyst Tops Lead Investors For October In Busy Month For US Startup Dealmaking

by | Nov 7, 2026 | Market Analysis & Trends | 0 comments

October was a busy month for U.S. startup funding, led by well-known venture investors with a healthy appetite for big deals.

General Catalyst emerged as the month’s busiest lead dealmaker, by both round count and size. Others who ranked high across multiple rankings include Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Accel and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

For a more detailed view, below we look at active investor rankings across three categories: lead deal count, largest lead investments and total venture rounds.

Busiest lead investors

Among lead venture investors, General Catalyst, known for investing across stages and sectors, topped the list, leading at least nine known rounds.

Lightspeed Venture Partners was next on the list, with eight lead rounds, followed by Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, with seven deals each.

For a broader analysis, below we charted the 16 most active lead or co-lead investors for October with three or more known deals.

Highest spending lead investors

Next, we took a look at investors who led rounds with the highest aggregate value.

By this count, General Catalyst once again topped the list, leading or co-leading rounds collectively valued at $5.1 billion. The largest contributor to this total was a $2.1 billion round for Re:Build, a startup that partners with manufacturers for product design and production, followed by a $2 billion Series A for Axiom Solutions International, a cloud and power infrastructure spin out of manufacturing provider Flex.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management, which co-led the Re:Build financing, was the next heaviest spender, followed by Koch Equity, which co-led the Axiom deal. Next on the list were the five co-lead investors in fintech unicorn Ramp’s $1.9 billion Series G.

Below, we rank lead investors for October who backed rounds with a total value of $1 billion or more.

Most active venture investors

The ranking of most active venture investors by round count featured many of the same names as our prior lead investor tally, albeit with some switch-ups.

Most notably, Y Combinator assumed its customary ranking as busiest investor by round in deals of $5 million or more. The famed accelerator typically participates as a nonlead backer in follow-on rounds for startups that took part in its program.

Next on the list was Andreessen Horowitz, which participated in at least 22 qualifying rounds, followed by General Catalyst, with 17.

Below, we ranked the top investors by deal count who participated in five or more rounds of $5 million or more.

Big picture: No big slowdown here

Overall, active investor rankings across metrics point to an upbeat startup funding environment. True, we didn’t see rounds last month that came close to rivalling some we’ve seen earlier this year, like the record-setting megafinancings for OpenAI and Anthropic. Even so, it’s clear venture investors are still willingly writing big checks, and plenty of them.
